Republic Day celebrations across North East Airports

The 73 Republic Day was celebrated across all North East region Airports with great fervor and patriotism by Airports Authority of India and with the active participation of our stakeholders.

At AAI Regional headquarter, North East Region, the Tri Colour our National Flag was unfurled by Shri Ravi Kant, Regional Executive Director. The guard of honour was given by the CISF personnel and the security staff of Home Guards on the occasion.

In his Republic Day speech, Shri Ravi Kant widely emphasised on our constitutional values, our ethics and the duties as a citizen of India. Addressing about the employees, he greatly appreciated the efforts put in by the frontline staff and the officials who acted as the life line, helping hands and the savours during the corona pandemic. As an airport employee, we are the frontline members who proved to be great help for the travellers and have overcome difficult times of pandemic and shall continue to serve the passengers and one of the safest mode of communication, he added.

Addressing about the achievement of Airports in the North East Region, he said that recently we have commissioned the New Integrated Terminal Building of Agartala Airport, Tripura which was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister on 05 January 2022. This world class airport terminal is now capable of handling International destination with all the facilities there in. Green filed airport projects are also in progress and some in the beginning stage. Construction of new Greenfield Hollongi Airport in Arunachal Pradesh is in progress and is expected to be open by August this year on Independence Day 2022.

The Regional Connectivity Scheme- UDAN has proved to be pivotal in connecting states in the North East region. Tezu Airport started operation in August 2021 and Rupsi was opened for public in May 2021 under RCS-UDAN programme. Both these airports have connected the underserved cities in the region. Flights from Shillong has also started to connect several cities of North East and Dibrugarh will soon get major connectivity by Alliance Air, Shri Ravi Kant informed. A Pilot training institute will soon be open at Lilabari Airport which will provide opportunity to youths in the region. AAI with Red Bird Aviation will soon operationalize this Pilot training academy.
