Today is International Women’s Day, that recognises the efforts of women towards the upliftment or development of the society. This is a fitting tribute to all women that give their best towards their respective cause with time.
“On Women’s Day, I salute our Nari Shakti and their accomplishments in diverse fields. The Government of India will keep focusing on women empowerment through its various schemes with an emphasis on dignity as well as opportunity.”, reads a tweet by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today morning.
He adds, “From financial inclusion to social security, quality healthcare to housing, education to entrepreneurship, many efforts have been made to put our Nari Shakti at the forefront of India’s development journey. These efforts will continue with even greater vigour in the coming times.”
The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) works towards the above-mentioned. It is led by the Government of India, and came into existence as a separate Ministry with effect from 30th January, 2006, earlier since 1985 it was a Department under the Ministry of Human Resources Development.
According to the official website of the ministry, it was constituted with the prime intention of addressing gaps in State action for women and children for promoting inter-Ministerial and inter-sectoral convergence to create gender equitable and child-centred legislation, policies and programmes.
The vision is “empowered women living with dignity and contributing as equal partners in development in an environment free from violence and discrimination. And, wellnurtured children with full opportunities for growth and development in a safe and protective environment.”
