Assam Floods have hit Haflong; Barak Valley also sees the worst of it!

The ongoing Assam Floods have turned to be no less than a curse for many, despite the rescue efforts by the Assam State Disaster Management Authoity (ASDMA) and other concerned agencies. The rural population is among the worst hit now. On the other hand, rains continue to devastate paddy fields and crop lands.

In other words, it is very pathetic situation for the passengers who are stranded in new Haflong station for the last five days. It is said that there are a total 250 passengers from Barak Valley who are stranded there. Most of the passengers are women, also add to it a significant number of children. They await rescue efforts.

Additionally, from last two days they have taken shelter at the respective helipad for the airlift. But at the end of the day, they are left disappointed. The administration has allegedly failed to rescue them, despite good weather condition last afternoon.

Nevertheless, it is a clear indication of negligence from their end at the time of disaster. The district administration should have taken appropriate and urgent measures in times of crisis. True that the victims are helpless, and nobody is on location to give them emotional and mental support. Certainly, it is the duty of the administration to take care of them now, and make necessary arrangements to rescue them immediately. For each and every life is precious for our country.

Questions arise, Who will be responsible for any loss or any unwanted incident with any stranded passengers? And what is the role of our elected members in this matter? Natural calamities are a challenge to mankind and the “system” at large. It is also true that the collective efforts of a section of government agencies have been an otherwise blessing to a lot of victims at this hour of need.
