SECURITY FORCES LAUNCH FLOOD RELIEF OPERATIONS IN SILCHAR, ASSAM

As heavy rains continued to lash the Barak Valley in Assam, water levels across all rivers rose above dangerous levels causing flooding and inundation across Cachar District.

On the request of District Administration, Silchar, on 20 Jun 22, Troops of Red Shield Division and Assam Rifles under the aegis of Spear Corps launched flood relief operations in general area of Silchar District of Assam.

On arrival at the site, the column found entire villages completely submerged.


Representatives of the District Administration guided the force to the worst affected areas where a number of elderly persons, women and children were stranded. The Troops of Red Shield Division and Assam Rifles carried out search and rescue operations thereby evacuating more than 300 persons.

The locals greatly appreciated the yeoman service rendered by the Army and Assam Rifles.
