Proving the above proverb true Hav.Purno Bahadur Thapa of Natun Basti Haflong (Dima Hasao) has shown his bravery, passion, love and dedication towards his motherland. Hav. Purno Bahadur Thapa had joined the 3/3 Gurkha Regiment on 1st July 1982 at the regional centre of Benarsa and was first posted at Dehradun.
This brave son of Gurkha have participated in “OPERATION BLUE STAR OF 1984”, “OPERATION RHINO OF 2001” and the famous KARGIL WAR 1999 popularly known as “OPERATION VIJAY”.
Moreover he was also posted at SIACHEN GLACIER the highest battlefield of the world in the year 1996.While fighting in the KARGIL WAR of 1999 he had sustained 4 bullet shots in splinter injury (LT) Chest with haemothorax, spinter injury abdomen and splinter injury due to heavy enemy arty shelling on 22nd July 1999 in the area of Track Junction near Julu -1 (J & K) in OPERATION VIJAY (KARGIL WAR).
On 1st July 2006,he has retired from his service and is presently living with his family at Natun Basti Haflong. It is to be noted that his son Sri Narayan Bahadur Thapa is also serving 4/5 Gurkha Regiment from last 16 years. We pay our solemn tribute to this brave heart of the nation and pray for his good health as he is the real hero to be idealised.
