ARMY INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT, KOLKATA CELEBRATES ITS SILVER JUBILEE TODAY

The Army Institute of Management, formerly the National Institute of Management Calcutta (NIMC), is a graduate business school located in Kolkata, India. It was established on 28 July 1997 by the Indian Army under the aegis of Army Welfare Education Society (AWES), New Delhi, for conducting a management programme (MBA) for the wards of Army personnel with an opportunity for general candidates as well.

The year 1994 marks a milestone in the history of Army Welfare Education Society (AWES). Late Gen BC Joshi, then COAS took a bold and far reaching decision to venture into professional education. One of the branches of this idea tree was the enunciation of the establishment of Army Institute of Management kolkata under the aegis of AWES.

The occasion was graced by the august presence of, GOC-in-C Eastern Command LT. GEN RANA PRATAP KALITA (YUSM, AVSM, SM, VSM), Chief of Staff Eastern Command LT. GEN KAMAL KUMAR REPSWAL (SM, VSM), Vice Chancellor of Makaut DR. SAIKAT MAITRA, MD of TATA STEEL downstream products Limited Kolkata ABRAHAM G. STEPHANOS and NKDA Chairman DEBASHIS SEN,IAS and other dignitaries from the world of industry and academia.

In his speech GOC-in- C ,Eastern Command, Lt Gen R.P.Kalita said – “Along side the educational curriculum it has also been able to imbibe the values and ethos that the entire army stands for that gives the students from this institute and edge over the other competitors. These values of honesty,  integrity, loyalty and character which are the  integral part of  the Armed Forces’ way of life  also mold  the students here. I am sure, these qualities will  help the alumni of this Institute in pursuing their own career  wherever they are placed and here also they not only learn theories but will carry with them these qualities which will  make them better leaders and contribute effectively to the nation building.”

 

Solemn ceremony was organized at the Newtown Campus in Hallowed Tagore auditorium .The director, Maj Gen V.S Ranade welcomed the esteemed guests to the function. An audio-visual depiction of the 25 years of journey was shown, that highlighted the milestones of this institute. A cultural performance filled with zest and fervour followed the video, wherein the students of AIM-K very beautifully depicted the confluence of different cultures that represents the essence of the Institute itself. 

The completion of 25 glorious years of the institute not only commemorates their contribution of meritorious service to education but also holds within itself a promise of further enhancing the quality of education in terms of technology.

The Institute’s MBA programme has been approved by the All India council for Technical Education (AICTE) and is affiliated to the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), West Bengal.

It has been a journey of 25 years, a journey that encompasses absolute reverence and tribute to the principles of the institute that represents, “the Indian Army”.

This Institute carries a comprehensive alumni base. Their alumni have excelled in various fields both nationally and internationally. The institute has had the honour of educating braveheart late Lt Navdeep Singh Bains, Ashok chakra, from Batch MBA-11. His supreme sacrifice inspires them, as they remember him for his exceptional courage and indomitable spirit.
