On 19th January, 2023, troops of Border Out Post Pipli, 158 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, acting on reliable information apprehended a smuggler with 100 bottles of Phensedyl. The jawans observed a smuggler who was carrying a container on the back of a bicycle. The jawans suspected him and when they stopped and searched him, the said Phensedyl was seized from his possession. The smuggler had hidden these Phensedyl in the bottom of the container. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Dipankar Biswas (22), District North 24 Parganas.
During interrogation, the smuggler revealed that he works as a fish seller. In the guise of this, he also does this kind of smuggling. These bottles were given to him by Subroto Mondal, District North 24 Parganas. After crossing the Border, these bottles were to be given to Dipankar Haldar resident of Pipli. He further revealed that he keeps fish on top of the container and smuggles of Phensedyl bottles by keeping in its bottom. Today, he was to get Rs 2,000 for this work. But the jawans cleverly apprehended the smuggler.
In another incident, troops of Border Out Post Mehrani, 107 Battalion, seized a total of 25 bottles of Phensedyl from their area of responsibility. The estimated value of seized Phensedyl in both the cases is Rs. 25,664/-.
The apprehended smuggler and the seized goods were handed over to Police Station Gaighata and Bagdah respectively for further legal action.
Spokesperson of South Bengal Frontier stated that smugglers try to smuggle in different ways to make their plans successful. But due to the intelligence and alertness of the troops of the Border Security Force, they could not get success, he added.
