The alert troops of Border Out Post M S Pur and Lodhia, 70th Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, seized 20 mobile phones worth around Rs. 2,59,000/-and 1,199 Phensedyl bottles worth around Rs. 2,46,167/-, which were being illegally smuggled from India to Bangladesh.
On February 15, 2023, around 4:30 AM, based on specific information, BSF jawans noticed suspicious movement of smugglers approaching the International Border via Pagla river. When challenged by the alert jawans, the smugglers fled the scene, taking advantage of the darkness. After conducting a thorough search of the area, the jawans recovered four bags containing 1,199 bottles of Phensedyl and 20 mobile phones. The seized items were handed over to the Customs Office in Malda for further legal action.
In another incident, the jawans of Border Outpost Charalkhali seized 199 bottles of Phensedyl, while the jawans of Border Outpost Pakhiura, 8th Battalion, recovered 36 bottles of Phensedyl from their area of responsibility. The estimated value of the 1,434 seized Phensedyl bottles is around Rs. 2,94,415/-.
The seized items have been handed over to the respective Police Station/Customs Office for further legal action.
