On March 15, 2023, troops of Border Out Post Ghojadanga, 153 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier received information that a suspicious person was heading towards the village of Uttarpara on a motorcycle. When the troops chased him, he abandoned the bike and fled. The jawans immediately confiscated the bike and found 15 bundles (12 lakh) of Bangladeshi taka hidden inside. Upon questioning the locals, the jawans learned that the man’s name was Ramzan Ghazi, from District North 24 Parganas. The smuggler was attempting to transport Bangladeshi currency from India to Bangladesh.
In another incident, troops of Border Out Post Ghojadanga, 153 Battalion acted on specific information and observed a suspicious motorcyclist traveling from village Itinda towards village Uttarpara. When the jawans stopped and searched the bike, they found 07 bundles (10 lakh) of Bangladeshi taka hidden in the bike’s filter. The jawans immediately arrested the smuggler, along with the bike and Bangladeshi taka. The apprehended smuggler was identified as Aziz Ghazi from District North 24 Parganas. During interrogation, the smuggler confessed that he met Sanjay Mandal, a resident of village Basirhat, at Itinda market, who then arranged for an unknown person to hand over the Bangladeshi currency to him. The plan was for him to transport the currency to the smuggler Chhotu Babu from District Satkhira in Bangladesh. He was supposed to receive Rs 2,000 for this work, but the BSF jawans apprehended him en route.
The apprehended smugglers and seized Bangladeshi currency were handed over to the concerned agencies.
Expressing satisfaction over the success, the Commanding Officer of 153 Battalion, BSF, stated that BSF jawans are fully committed to stopping all kinds of cross-border crimes.
