BODY OF DRIVER OF ARMY TRUCK THAT FELL INTO TEESTA RIVER RECOVERED

On 5 Apr 2023, at 9.3 0 am body of the Army Driver, who was presumed drowned following an accident, has been recovered by joint team of Army, NDRF, TRRC and DMG WB Police divers after four days relentless search operation in Teesta River.

On 01 Apr 2023, an Army truck had skidded off the road into Teesta River and the driver had been since been untraceable. The body of the fallen soldier has been taken over by the Army from concerned civil authorities after post mortem and is under despatch to his hometown for the last rites at his village Silipur, Distt Mehsana, Gujarat, with full military honour.

The deceased is survived by his wife & a nine months old son. The 25 years old soldier driver had been driving in hilly areas for operational duties on such like roads for past 4 years now in Sikkim as well as previously in J&K. Police as well as departmental inquiries of Army are under progress to ascertain the cause of accident. The underwater search operation in Teesta river was undertaken by a Joint Team of experienced divers from the Army and Civil Administration and Specialist Disaster Rescue Agencies displaying utmost synergy and professionalism.
