In a sensational incident, a 12-year old girl was allegedly raped and murdered at jaya nagar Margherita in Tinsukia district.
On Wednesday evening, Margherita police recovered the body of the minor girl from septic tank.
According to victim family members one Anand Tanti aka Swapan Tanti resident of jaya nagar Margherita allegedly raped the minor and later killed her and dumped in the septic tank.
“The minor girl Mitali Saikia age about 12 years went to watch a Bihu programme at North Margherita Rangamancha on April 30, but due to late in the programme, the girl stated at the resident of Anand Tanti as the minor girl family had a good relation with Anand Tanti family with Anand Tanti taking advantage of the situation, raped the minor girl and killed her and later dumped her body in a septic tank,” said a police official.
Meanwhile, police have detained the wife of Anand Tanti and she revealed that her husband had committed the crime.
The situation in Margherita was tense after the recovering of the body and people comes out from their residence in protest against the gruesome incident.
“The family members of the minor girl lodged a missing compliant at the police station and based on the compliant, we have launched an investigation and on wednesday evening we have recovered the body of the minor girl from the septic tank of Anand Tanti’s residence,” said a police official.
He said, “We have sent the body for post mortem. We have launched a search operation to nab Anand Tanti,”.
On Thursday morning hours the angry protesters gheoroed the Margherita police station demanding capital punished of the culprit.
Margherita Regional Student Union, Asom Jatiyotabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, All Adivasi Student Association of Assam (AASAA),Assam Tea Tribe Student Association(ATTSA), Satra Mukti Sangram Samity, Warriors(NGO),Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, All Assam Bhojpuri Parishad, All Assam Gorkha Student Union,All Assam Mech Kachari Student Union and more than 5000 local residents of Margherita took out a protest rally from north Margherita rangamancha and reached at NH 315 Margherita segunbari tiniali where they burnt tyres and shouted various slogans against Margherita Sub divisional administration and Margherita Police for their failure to arrest the main accused Anand Tanti aka Swapan Tanti who has fled after committing the heinous crime.
Pappu Dutta working president of Satra Mukti Sangram Samity Central Committee said that it is so shameful that after four days of the incident Margherita police find out the minor girl body from the septic tank which indicates that home department of Assam government have failed to control law and order situation at Assam for which such a heinous crime occured at peace loving Margherita town.
Meanwhile Aam Aadmi Party State Committee vice president Manoj Dhanowar on thursday afternoon reached at victim house Margherita and demanded stringent action against the main accused Anand Tanti and through fast track court the trail must be done.
The victim Mitali Saikia is the daughter of Juli Saikia who is a daily wage worker of Margherita and survived by one son and one daughter.
Meanwhile Assam Police arrested Margherita rape accused Anan Tanti.
Ravi Chetry president of All Assam Gorkha Student Union Tinsukia District Committee thanked Tinsukia superintendent of police and Margherita Police for apprehending the main accused Anand Tanti from Deomali Assam Arunachal Pradesh border where he tried to escape from police custody and was gun down by Tinsukia police.
Ravi Chetry said that earlier Tukhin Tikhak and Champa Chetry of Margherita were brutally raped and murder but this time the main accused Anand Tanti aka Swapan Tanti was gun down by Tinsukia police which on behalf of All Assam Gorkha Student Union we thanked Tinsukia superintendent of police and Margherita Police for showing quick action.
