Rabindra Jayanti celebrations at Assam Down Town University

Assam Down Town University today hosted the celebration of Rabindra Jayanti, a festival that honours Rabindranath Tagore’s life and works. A number of notable figures from the worlds of literature and culture attended the event, including Professor Dr. Barun Saha of Guwahati University, who served as the event’s chief guest. In his speech, Dr. Sahai emphasized that Rabindra Jayanti is not just a tribute to Tagore, but also a celebration of literature and culture. He also highlighted that Tagore’s art and philosophy are rooted in Indian culture and philosophy, making him representative of India despite writing in Bengali.

The invited artist, Indrajit Das, an officer at Aakashbani Guwahati, recited the Assamese translation of Tagore’s poems. Music composer Hriday Goswami and lyricist Hirak Jyoti Baruah were also present at the event. Dr. Ritismita Devi, Pankhi Kashyap, and Nibedita Baishya did the honour to them. The main performers of the event were Assam Down Town University students and teachers. The program included recitations of Tagore’s original Bengali poems and Assamese translations, as well as song and dance performances based on his songs.

The event was hosted by Pooja Deka and supported by the Dance, Music, and Literature Club of the University. Dr. Niranjan Islari welcomed the guests and highlighted the importance of cultural activities in contributing to the beauty of the academic environment at the university. Professor Bandana Dutta felicitated Dr. Saha on behalf of the university.

The program was organized by the Programme of Performing Arts of the University. The event concluded with closing remarks by Utpal Datta. He thanked the guests for their attendance and emphasized the importance of celebrating and preserving India’s rich cultural heritage. Overall, the celebration of Rabindra Jayanti was a colourful and vibrant event that showcased the talents and creativity of the students and faculty of Assam Down Town University.
