“It is not what we read but what we should not read” -Dr. Mayur Hazarika encourages at The Assam Royal Global University

Dr. Mayur Hazarika, Assam’s blue-eyed boy addressed Royalites today at The Assam Royal Global University. Dr. Hazarika, who secured the fifth position at his maiden in the UPSC 2022 was welcomed to the institution by Mr. Rabindranath Kalita, Director, Royal Centre for Career Counselling, Coaching and Guidance with a congratulatory greeting.

Dr. Hazarika, in this interactive session, elaborated on the importance of choosing one’s resources wisely, which can be done, he said, by successfully sifting through the over-availability of resources. However, this he said, should be done only in tandem with respect to one’s learning style and grasping abilities. Sharing his preparation journey, Dr. Hazarika encouraged his audience to overcome hurdles and not resort to making excuses regarding the dearth of time for preparation. Further, emphasizing the importance of not only hard work but smart work, he shared the resource material he turned to during his journey. For Indian Polity, the rank holder suggested M. Laxmikanth, for Modern History-Mc Graw Hills (Sonali Bansal), for Ancient and Medieval History-Poonam Dalal Dahiya, Geography-PMF IS (2020), Environment-PMF IS, for Science and Technology, Internal Security, and International Resources, the trailblazer threw light on the importance of compiling data from various resources, Ethics-next IAS module to build a strong base, Economics-Nitin Singhania, and for current affairs, he suggested his audience read newspapers daily.

The rank holder shared with his audience that though everything including the number of mock tests attempted was negotiable, revision of everything that was studied was not. While Prelims he said, tested your knowledge of facts and depth of that knowledge, and Mains tested one’s critical analysis abilities, it was the Personality Test or the Interview round that was the most exciting as it shed light on the examinee’s personality.

Wishing his young audience, the very best, he shared his dream of seeing more people from the NER attempt this coveted examination.
