The Border Security Force (BSF), responsible for safeguarding the country’s borders, consistently demonstrates its commitment to assisting border residents in times of need, whether it be during the COVID-19 pandemic or under normal circumstances. A recent incident involving the jawans of the 86th Battalion, part of the South Bengal Frontier, serves as a remarkable example.
On May 26th, 2023, Nishit Mahto (38), a resident of New Shikarpur village, made an attempt on his life by hanging from a tree due to a family dispute. Alerted by his relatives, who swiftly rescued him, the company commander of Border Outpost Shikarpur was promptly contacted for assistance. Without hesitation, the commander dispatched a nursing assistant and a BSF ambulance to the person’s residence. The unconscious individual was safely transported to Karimpur hospital for immediate medical attention. Fortunately, his condition is now stable and no longer critical.
Sathi Mahto, Nishit Mahto’s father, expressed deep gratitude to the Border Security Force for their compassionate intervention. He acknowledged that, had the BSF not acted promptly, a major tragedy might have unfolded.
The Commanding Officer of the 86th Battalion expressed his satisfaction and commended the exemplary dedication of the jawans. He emphasized that, while their primary duty is to combat border-related crimes, the BSF also stands firmly by the side of border residents in times of both happiness and sorrow. This collective effort plays a vital role in fostering a harmonious relationship between the BSF and the border residents.
