BSF FOILS SMUGGLERS’ PLANS; FISH EGGS WORTH RS 18.25 LAKH SEIZED ON INDO-BANGLADESH BORDER

Troops of BSF under South Bengal Frontier seized 76 plastic bags containing fish eggs from their area of ​​responsibility in different incidents. The market value of fish eggs is Rs.18,25,000/-. Smugglers were trying to cross the fish eggs from India to Bangladesh.

In the first incident, at 0330 hrs on 02 Jun 2023, troops of Border Out Post Ghojadanga, 153 Battalion observed 6-7 smugglers carrying gunny bags on their heads approaching towards the border. The jawans chased and challenged them. Seeing the jawans coming towards them, the smugglers fled from the spot taking advantage of the thick darkness and tall grass. Thereafter, the jawans conducted a thorough search of the area and seized 18 plastic bags containing fish eggs from the spot.

In another incident on the same day, troops of Border Out Post Ranghat, 68 Battalion saw 08-09 smugglers going towards Kodalia river. When the jawans chased the smugglers, the smugglers took advantage of the darkness and fled towards the Indian village. The jawans reached the spot and seized 27 packets of fish eggs.

In another incident, jawans of Border Out Post Ranghat chased a suspicious van and seized 31 packets of fish eggs from the spot. However, the smugglers managed to escape from the spot towards the village taking advantage of the darkness.

The seized goods were handed over to the concerned agencies for further legal action.

A spokesperson of BSF, South Bengal Frontier stated that the Border Security Force troops always perform their duty on the international border with promptness and no movement of smugglers can hide from their eyes. He further added that smugglers try to smuggle in different new ways but the alert BSF jawans thwart their efforts.
