At least Six people died and 15 others were injured at Kumarghat in Tripura. Assistant Inspector General (Law & Order) Jyotishman Das Chowdhury told news agency PTI.
The incident happened on Wednesday at near about 4.30 PM during the ‘Ulta Rath’ procession at Kumarghat.
Police said that thousands of people were pulling the chariot, made of iron when it came in contact with a 133-kw overhead cable.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha tweeted, “In a tragic incident, several devotees have lost their lives & some other people sustained injuries due to electrocution during Ulta Rath Yatra at Kumarghat today. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families who lost their near and dear ones in the tragedy. In this difficult time, the State Government stands by the side of the affected families.”

The Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has started for Kumarghat on a train from Agartala to take stock of the situation.
The injured people were taken to the Kumarghat Hospital. From there, they were referred to the Unakoti District Hospital. Their condition were stated to be critical.
Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the Chairman of Tipra Motha tweeted, “hearing about a terrible incident in Kumarghat during the rath yatra, my prayers and condolences to all those who have been affected . I have immediately asked all my local MLAs and MDC to extend all help possible.”
