Tree plantation drive, also known as afforestation initiative. The main objective of the tree plantation drive being carried out by the BSF is to increase the number of forests in the border area, improve biodiversity, combat deforestation, enhance air and water quality.
In this connection, on July 25, 2023, jawans of Border Outposts Sagarpara and Khashmahal, 141 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier planted 490 fruit and shade trees of different species at Sagarpara School, Maa Kaali Temple, Sagapara and on the bank of river Padma under Plantation Drive-2023.
A K Arya, DIG, spokesperson of BSF, South Bengal Frontier stated that tree plantation drive has a significant positive impact on the environment and society. The official further explained that trees enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change by sequestering carbon dioxide, improve air and water quality, provide habitat for wildlife and provide several socio-economic benefits to local communities. The officer further added that the BSF has strengthened its resolve to safeguard the country’s borders as well as protect nature.
