Indian Railways is investing significantly for the betterment of connectivity in the Northeastern region. Railway Board has recently accorded its approval for the Final Location Survey (FLS) of the 140 km, Zubza (Nagaland)–Imphal (Manipur) new line project.
The Zubza – Imphal new line project will provide direct connectivity between the two states i.e. Nagaland & Manipur which will help in better mobility of railway traffic. The direct connectivity will reduce the time, cost and distance of transportation for both man and materials thus giving a major socio- economic boosts to the areas and the entire region. Infrastructural development like new stations, road connections, goods yards, businesses will lead to overall economic growth of the nearby districts. Goods movement will become seamless leading to major cost reduction for existing businesses using freight services.
The works for Dimapur – Kohima new railway line project which takes off from the Dhansiri station of Assam to Zubza adjacent to Kohima is also in progress. Further, the works for Jiribam – Imphal new line railway project is also going on in full swing to connect Imphal, the capital city of Manipur to the rest of the country.
As a part of the state capital connectivity projects and the international connectivity projects under Northeast Frontier Railway, the sanctioned final location survey for the Zubza (Nagaland) – Imphal (Manipur) new line project will provide a direct route to boost the interstate connectivity in the region.
