Acclaimed Assamese Director Rima Das engages Dibrugarh University students in inspiring interactive session

Center for studies in Journalism and Mass Communication, Dibrugarh University organized an interactive session with the student body of Dibrugarh University. The session was held at Indira Miri Conference Hall from 3:15 pm onwards. The session was attended by the students and faculties of the center as well as students and faculties of other department or centers.

The event was commenced by lightning the ceremonial lamp to honour Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on his birth anniversary following which the guest were felicitated. Among the honoured guests were Dr. Prabin Kumar Gogoi, chairperson of CSJMC, Rima Das, an Assamese Film Director and Priyanka Baruah , film marketer and PR manager .The students of CSJMC gifted Rima Das with a felicitation letter and a small gift.

This was followed by a welcoming address from the chairperson after which the mic was handed over to Rima Das. She shared her knowledge and experience regarding film making with the attendees. She stated “camera is my weapon”. She spoke about her Oscar nominated film “ Village Rockstars” and shared her Toronto International Film Festival experiences with “Bulbul can sing” and “Tora’s husband” . The present students and faculties displayed their inquisitiveness by enthusiastically participating in a question and answer session in which Rima Das, revealed more of her artistic psyche. She also shared with the students the history of her career ranging from an aspiring actress in Mumbai to one-woman workforce now.

Also gracing the dais was Priyanka Baruah who shed her own career story in the world of film marketing. Her insight on film PR and her works left an inspiration on the attendees. The attendees were enthralled to be in the presence of such eminent personalities, especially the students who are inclined towards film oriented careers paths the insights of arguably the most influential auteur from Assam left impact on all the attendees.

To wrap up the event the students sang a Bhupendra Sangeet at the behest of Rima Das who felt it was auspicious that she interacted with the students on the birth anniversary of the Sudho Kontho.
