On September 14, 2023, troops of Border Outpost Puttikhali, 08 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, on the basis of concrete information, seized 41.700 kg of silver jewelery during a raid in the border village Mathurapur. The estimated value of the seized silver is Rs. 29,77,380/-.
In fact, the troops of border post Puttikhali received inputs from reliable sources that some smugglers have reached Mathurapur village with a huge quantity of silver jewelery with the intention of smuggling it from India to Bangladesh. After the input was confirmed, a contingent of BSF jawans reached the spot. As soon as the troops reached the spot, they saw a suspicious person with two bags. When the smuggler see the troops, he left the bag and ran away from the spot. Subsequently, the troops searched the surrounding area but found no trace of the suspected smuggler. But the troops recovered two bags from the spot. When the bags were opened, a total of 41.7 kg of silver jewelery was found in them.
The seized silver jewelery was handed over to the Customs Department Majadia for further legal action.
A K Arya, DIG, Public Relations Officer, South Bengal Frontier, stated that BSF troops are working day and night to stop crimes like smuggling on the India-Bangladesh border. Due to which BSF jawans are continuously thwarting the evil intentions of people involved in such crimes. The officer further stated that any person with evil intentions will not be spared.
