The Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Shakliar Warjri today flag-off the torch relay for the 5th Meghalaya Games commenced from Shillong SSA Stadium en route to Tura, West Garo Hills, where the games is scheduled to be held from 15th-20th January 2024.
Speaking on the occasion, Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri expressed his happiness to start off the Meghalaya games by lighting the torch and handed over to the organiser. He said that Meghalaya Games is one of the biggest sports events in the State; he also extended his best wishes to all the athletes who will be participating in the event.
“The government is committed to ensure the success of this event and hope that it is one of the best. Through this platform the Government hope that some of the athletes will outshine in their respective discipline, looking forward that in the future they will be participating in the National level, International level like the Olympics,” he added.
He also emphasized that the primary goal of the government is to provide a constructive platform for athletes and encourage them to pursue sports as a career rather than just a hobby.
The Minister underscored the role of sports in preventing youth from falling prey to the drug menace. The Meghalaya Games, beyond being a sporting event, serves as a crucial platform for youth empowerment and career development in the realm of sports.
As the torch makes its way to Tura, anticipation builds for the upcoming Meghalaya Games, poised to be a celebration of athleticism, unity, and youth empowerment
