The ASOMI Bhogali (Poush) Mela commenced its vibrant celebrations on January 10th, marking a three-day fiesta filled with cultural splendor and a showcase of local products. Hosted by the District Mission Management Unit, Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission under the P&RD Department, Govt of Assam, the inauguration ceremony witnessed the esteemed presence of notable dignitaries including the CEO of Zilla Parishad Cachar, the Chairman of Silchar Development Authority, and representatives of Silchar’s Member of Parliament.
Amidst the joyous inauguration, guests lauded the meticulously arranged mela, providing a significant platform for Self-Help Group (SHG) members to exhibit and market their diverse array of products. With a total of 32 SHG stalls representing the entire district of Cachar, the event showcases an impressive variety of non-farm products such as cane, bamboo, handloom, and handicrafts. Additionally, the mela boasts a delectable selection of ethnic food products native to the valley.
The evening witnessed a surge in attendance, drawing in a massive crowd eager to explore the diverse offerings. A highlight of the event was the mesmerizing cultural program captivating attendees, continuing throughout the duration of the mela until January 12th.
Organizers expressed their enthusiasm, inviting citizens to partake in the festivities and support the SHG members by visiting the mela. The event not only presents a platform for economic empowerment but also serves as a celebration of Assam’s rich cultural heritage.
