Assam Rifles, in a proactive operation, intercepted and recovered two truckloads of timber at Wangparal, Chandel District, on January 21, 2024.
At approximately 1230 hrs, five individuals transporting timber in trucks bearing registration numbers MN 04 5674 and MN 04 8988 were apprehended at a Mobile Vehicle Check Post established by Assam Rifles.
The intercepted vehicles were en route from Liwa Khullen, Chandel, to Wagabai, Kakching. Thorough examination at the check post revealed the illicit nature of the cargo, resulting in the confiscation of two truckloads of suspected timber. Estimated value of the Timber is yet to be ascertained.
The apprehended individuals, along with the confiscated timber and vehicles, were promptly handed over to the Range Officer, Chandel/District Forest Officer (DFO), Chandel for further necessary legal action.
