Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) inaugurated the Late Major Bob Khathing Celebration on 17th February 2024 in Ukhrul district on the 112th Birth Anniversary of the legendary personality.
Late Major Bob Khathing commemorative event was conceptualised in the year 2013 to honour the man who brought Tawang under the Indian Administration without any bloodshed in the year 1951.
The 10 day event is being undertaken in association with Ukhrul District Sports Association (UDSA) and will continue till 26 February 2024 during which youth and children will showcase their enthusiastic participation and fervour.
The popularity and magnitude of the celebrations has evoked a healthy participation with a total of 8 teams participating in the 10th Edition Men’s Football, 5 teams in the 9th Edition Women’s Volleyball and 6 teams in the 4th Edition Baby League (under 12 years age category).
The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Ramnganing Muivah, MLA 44 AC Ukhrul.
A grand Opening Ceremony was organised where Commander 10 Sector Assam Rifles and Commandant Somsai Battalion welcomed the teams and honoured the contributions of Late Major Bob Khathing during the Opening Address. Multiple cultural programs portraying the rich culture & traditions of the Tangkhul tribe also offered tribute to Late Major Bob Khathing.
The Ceremony received a rousing response with a widespread distinguished audience which included Kengoo Zuringla, IAS, DC Ukhrul as the Guest of Honour, Ringthing Hongchui, Addl SP, Padma Shree Awardee Guru Rewben, Padma Shree Awardee Machihan Sasa, Themaso Tallano, TMNL President, YL Ravins, TNFA President, Mr Jollyson, TNL Vice President, Headmen of the Hunphun and Hungdung Villages as well as youth, women, students, teachers & people from all walks of life.
