Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani or Latasil Bihu Sanmilani organizes Workshop on Bihu Dance from 4 April’24 to 10 April’24.
Experts like Bihu Samraggi Gayatri Konwar and Paharee Baruah gave lessons on the state’s most popular folk dance form. More than 100 students participated in the 7 day Bihu Dance Workshop. The main motive behind the workshop was to encourage the youth, especially the school going children to learn their own folk dance and participate in conserving the culture.
The Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani organized the first stage performance of Bihu at the playground in 1952. Radha Govinda Baruah was one of the founding members of the organization. It is the oldest open celebration of the festival in Assam.
The Director of the Workshop, Mr. Dip Jyoti Hazarika said, “The initiative to conduct the workshop is taken to popularize Bihu Naas among the children. It is overwhelming to see not only children from Assamese community but also from Non-Assamese background, participate in the workshop. It is my promise that we will be taking actions towards the popularization of the workshop across the whole state. Looking forward to more participants in the coming years.
The final day of the workshop was conducted on 10 April’2024. The experts were felicitated by the organizers with the traditional Gamusa and bouquet. The students performed in front of the audience wearing the traditional Bihu attire. Each one of them were given certificates of participation.
