How have Sarbananda Sonowal and Kiren Rijiju contributed to their respective regions in the past

Sarbananda Sonowal and Kiren Rijiju, both representing the Northeast region, took oath as Cabinet Ministers in the Modi 3.0 government. Sonowal, hailing from Assam, and Rijiju, representing Arunachal Pradesh, were part of the 72 ministers who took oath at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Sunday.

From Northeastern States BJP and his alliance won 15 seat. BJP won 13, AGP 1 and UPPL 1 seat.

Sarbananda Sonowal and Kiren Rijiju have made significant contributions to their respective regions of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in the past:

Sarbananda Sonowal:

As the 14th Chief Minister of Assam from 2016 to 2021, Sonowal implemented the National Registry of Citizens (NRC) and the Citizenship Amendment Bill, which aimed to grant citizenship to non-Muslim immigrants from neighboring countries.

He challenged the controversial Illegal Migrants (Determination by Tribunals) Act, 1983, which placed the burden of proving a person’s nationality on the complainant. His legal challenge led to the Supreme Court striking down the Act, earning him the title “Jatiya Nayak” (Assamese National Leader).

Sonowal served as the president of the All Assam Students Union (AASU) from 1992 to 1999, advocating for the rights of Assamese people.

Earlier Sonowal handle Ports, Shipping, and Waterways and AYUSH. He has also served as the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India, from 2014 to 2016

Sonowal won Dibrugarh Constituency of Assam defeated his nearest rival Lurunjyoti Gogoi.

Kiren Rijiju:

Rijiju has been a prominent leader representing Arunachal Pradesh in Indian politics. He has held several key government roles, including Minister of State for Home Affairs from 2014, Minister of State for Minority Affairs from 2019 to 2021, and Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Sports and Youth Affairs from 2019 to 2021. Additionally, he served as the Law Minister from 2021 to 2023. He has also served as the Minister of Cabinet Minister of Earth Sciences and Food Processing Industries in the Government of India since 2023 and 2024

He defeated former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Nabam Tuki.

Both Sonowal and Rijiju have played crucial roles in advocating for the interests of their respective states and have held important positions in the government, contributing to the development and representation of the Northeast region.
