Tripura is currently facing a catastrophic flooding situation, with relentless rains affecting the entire state. The death toll has risen to 13, and over 45,000 people have been rendered homeless, taking refuge in relief camps as the government struggles to respond effectively to the crisis.
Reports indicate that emergency services are overwhelmed, with many residents trapped and awaiting rescue. The situation has been exacerbated by a disabled emergency hotline, leaving people without a means to call for help. The administration’s silence on the matter has raised concerns among the public about the adequacy of the government’s response.
Chief Minister Manik Saha has requested additional teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to assist in rescue operations, but many citizens remain skeptical of the government’s ability to manage the crisis effectively. While relief camps have been established, the sheer number of affected individuals has overwhelmed local resources.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for further heavy rainfall, raising fears of additional flooding and landslides. As the situation continues to deteriorate, the urgency for a coordinated response from the government and local authorities has never been more critical.
The Union Home Minister Amit Shah took stock of the flood situation in the state.
Shah told the Centre is rushing teams of NDRF, apart from boats and helicopters, to the state to assist the local government in relief and rescue operations.
He assured of all possible assistance from the Centre as and when required. The Modi government firmly stands with our sisters and brothers in Tripura during this hour of crisis.
