The flood situation in Tripura has reached a critical level, with severe consequences.
As of August 23, 2024, the death toll has risen to 23, and over 65,000 people have been displaced, affecting 17 lakh individuals statewide.
The districts of South Tripura, Gomati, and Unakoti are among the worst-hit areas, with rivers overflowing and water levels above danger marks.
Relief efforts are underway, with the central government approving a ₹40 crore relief package. Eleven NDRF teams, three Army columns, and four Air Force helicopters are deployed for rescue operations. Over 77,625 individuals are housed in 557 relief camps, receiving extensive support from the central government.
Despite these efforts, challenges persist due to continuous rainfall, landslides, and damaged roads, hindering infrastructure restoration.
As of August 23, 2024, a total of 1479 people have been evacuated from flood-affected areas with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
NDRF teams are also assisting district administrations in distributing relief material to the affected population, ensuring that essential supplies reach those in need.
Chief Minister Manik Saha has conducted aerial surveys and is overseeing relief and restoration efforts. The situation remains critical, with ongoing efforts to mitigate the crisis.
