On 30 August 2024, in two separate operations, large cache of areca nuts were recovered from general area of Machi & Khampang Khullen close to Sita Village, Tengnoupal District.
In both the operations, during the conduct of area domination patrols, the parties of Assam Rifles from Modi & Tengnoupal stopped and checked suspicious vehicles. On detailed inspection, areca nut recoveries of 12,000kgs & 16,200 kgs respectively were made.
The value of the same in the international market is assessed to be approximately rupees 2.5 crore and the same has been handed over to the customs department.
Six individuals were apprehended from both the operations and further handed over to Machi & Tengnoupal Police Stations respectively for further legal proceedings.
