Hosts West Bengal, Assam and Jharkhand recorded huge wins in the Sub-Junior Girls’ National Football Championship Tier 1 group stage games in Berhampore and Malda on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.
West Bengal trounced Delhi 4-0 to kick off their home campaign in style in Group C. Delhi’s defence held strong for a quarter of an hour, but right on cue, in the 15th minute Antara Dolui broke the deadlock to give the home side the lead. A second goal by Antara Roy in the 26th gave them a margin to work with going into the break. Two goals in the space of four minutes in the second half — Sayani Chakraborty (58′), Mousumi Khatun (61′) — sealed a deserved opening-game victory.
In the second Group C game Assam handily beat Chhattisgarh 9-0. A hat trick by Sari Faihriem (15′, 48′, 56′) and a brace each by second half substitutes Maanwi Mech (72′, 88′) and Arpita Gogoi (77′, 90′ + 4′) were enough to set up a comfortable victory.
In the day’s Group D game Jharkhand beat Maharashtra 4-0 to take the points. A hat trick by Manisha Dungdung (23′, 66′, 83′) and Sonal Munda’s 57th minute strike gave the team a handy victory.
