In an exclusive interview at the ISL Media Day, Khalid Jamil, head coach of Jamshedpur FC, expressed his team’s determination to reach the top six this season.
Nikhil, being a local Jamshedpur boy, how much does it matter to you to play for this club?
Nikhil Barla: It matters a lot. I was in the academy and have been watching Jamshedpur FC since its inception. I’ve seen football as a fan and as a player, and football is very important for me.
How confident are you in reaching to the playoffs?
Javi Siverio: I think having Khalid Jamil from the start gives us an advantage from the last time. We have enough quality this season to reach top 6 of ISL and we are training everyday with the plan of the coach to win, that’s our goal.
Coach, regarding the changes in rules for coaching in the ISL, what’s your opinion on the new rule that if an international coach is sacked or leaves, the Indian interim coach will take over?
Khalid Jamil: I haven’t thought about it. We have to follow the rules. Indian coaches must get a chance. If they get a chance, they will improve and along with this Indian football will grow as well.
Nikhil, last season, your right-back position was played by Rohat Dakra. He has left this season. So, how important is this season for you? What are your objectives as a young player playing for such a big club?
Nikhil Barla: As a young player, I will give my best if I get a chance. The coach wants me to play for my best team in whichever position I am. My aim is to give all for the team and repay the trust he has shown in me.
How much advantage will you get from the concussion substitute rule?
Khalid Jamil: First, no one should get injured. Second, if there’s a rule, we’ll use it. It’s useful because anything can happen during the match. So, it’s a good one for the team.
Rei, What made you stay in Jamshedpur again this season?
Rei Tachikawa: First of all the fans of Jamshedur and entire Jharkhand, their love and passion for us and the game made me stay. Secondly, coach had shown lot of faith in me and given me opportunity to represent our fans. I am excited and positive for this season.
