Congress and National Conference alliance gets clear majority in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Election 2024

The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections results for 2024 indicate a significant victory for the Congress and National Conference. The National Conference wins 42 seats and alliance Congress wins 6 seat in the 90-members assembly.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to win 29 seats, while the the Mehbooba Mufti-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the other major local party, gets three seat, Aam Aadmi Party one  and others wins eight seat. 

This marks the first elected government in Jammu and Kashmir since 2014, following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. Omar Abdullah is anticipated to become the Chief Minister again.

Key figures like former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah from Ganderbal and Budgam seat, AAP candidate from Doda Mehraj Malik and NC candidate Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed, BJP’s Devender Singh Rana wins Nagrota Assembly seat, while BJP chief Ravinder Raina lost in Nowshera. PDP’s Iltija Mufti among the prominent loser.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweets “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have blessed the BJP with the highest percentage of votes in this assembly election and have given the BJP the highest number of seats in its history so far. For this, I express my heartfelt gratitude to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Also, I congratulate all the workers of the party for their tireless hard work…”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweets, “these elections in Jammu and Kashmir have been very special. They were held for the first time after the removal of Articles 370 and 35(A) and witnessed a high turnout, thus showing the people’s belief in democracy. I compliment each and every person of Jammu and Kashmir for this.”

PM Modi also congralatues  National Conference for their commendable performance in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal has congratulated Mehraj din Malik, the party candidate from the Doda seat in Jammu and Kashmir.

National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah says, “It has now become essential for us to build relations with the centre so that we can solve the problems of J&K.

Public Discontent: A significant voter turnout of 69.65% reflected widespread frustration with the BJP’s governance, creating a demand for change and stability.

Focused Manifesto: Their manifesto promised critical reforms, including job creation, restoration of statehood, and social welfare initiatives, resonating with voters’ needs.

Public Sentiment Against BJP: Voter discontent with the BJP’s policies, particularly regarding the abrogation of Article 370 and its perceived neglect of local issues, fueled support for the alliance.
