On October 13, 2024, the 85th Battalion of Border Security Force (BSF) South Bengal Frontier, in collaboration with local authorities, ensured the successful and peaceful immersion of Goddess Durga idols in the Ichhamati River along the India-Bangladesh border.
Thousands gathered for the immersion of around 55 idols, which took place in the AOR of BSF border outposts of Taki and Sodpur.
BSF played a crucial role in maintaining peace and security during this significant event, working closely with local administration and police officials. The event was overseen by the Commandant of BSF’s 85th Battalion, and good no of BSF personnel were deployed to ensure seamless security throughout the program.
Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) personnel were also present on the Bangladesh side of the Ichhamati River, ensuring seamless coordination between both sides of the border. This collaboration exemplified the commitment of both nations to uphold peace and harmony during such sensitive events.
Local administration officials, including the Chairman and Vice Chairman of Taki, the Deputy Magistrate of Basirhat, and representatives from the police force, played a vital role in assisting BSF during the event. A total of 130 police personnel, 12 members from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and several civilian volunteers were involved in facilitating the smooth conduct of the immersion.
Speaking on the occasion, N.K. Pandey, DIG, Public Relations Officer of BSF South Bengal Frontier, lauded the collective efforts of BSF and local authorities in ensuring a peaceful and incident-free event. He emphasized BSF’s commitment to maintaining peace and security along the sensitive India-Bangladesh border, especially during large-scale events like these.
