As part of the major coastal exercise Sea Vigil 24, conducted on November 21, 2024, security forces executed a high-intensity operation to counter a simulated sabotage attempt by non-state actors targeting the critical Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) facility in Kolkata.
The exercise, designed to test multi-agency readiness, was led by the Indian Navy, which ensured seamless coordination among all stakeholders, including the CISF, National Security Guard (NSG), and GRSE management.
The operation commenced with CISF Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) as the first responders, swiftly mobilizing to secure the facility, establish an impenetrable perimeter, and prevent any unauthorized movement. To reinforce the defense, the Indian Navy deployed Fast Interceptor Craft (FIC), implementing a robust maritime blockade that eliminated any seaborne escape or reinforcement routes. With the situation contained, the NSG launched a precision counter-assault, neutralizing the simulated threats with surgical efficiency while ensuring the safety of critical naval assets.
GRSE management played a pivotal role by providing strategic site intelligence, technical layouts, and logistical assistance, enabling coordinated and informed tactical operations. As one of the largest maritime and coastal security exercises, Sea Vigil 24 demonstrated India’s unparalleled preparedness and inter-agency coordination to protect its strategic infrastructure against evolving threats.
