BSF’s big operation in the hinterland area of India Bangladesh border in dist. Nadia, Arrests one smuggler and two gold carriers with 1.67 kg gold worth Rs 1.28 crore

The jawans of Border Outpost Puttikhali under BSF South Bengal Frontier conducted a special information based operation in the hinterland area on the India Bangladesh border of Nadia district of West Bengal and arrested a scooty rider with 12 gold biscuits and 2 gold bricks and also nabbed two other gold carriers who had come to take the gold for further delivery. The arrested gold carriers had planned to hand over the consignment of gold to another unknown person at Ranaghat railway station. The total weight of the seized gold is 1.67 kg and the estimated market value is Rs 1.28 Crore.

On December 8, 2024, the troops of Border Outpost Puttikhali received specific information about possible smuggling of gold in the hinterland area. On receiving the information, BSF troops laid a special ambush in the suspected hinterland area. During the ambush, BSF troops intercepted 02 suspicious persons travelling on a bike. On preliminary interrogation, they revealed that one person was coming with a consignment of gold from Gede and would hand it over to them for further transportation to Ranaghat. BSF troops noticed a third person coming on a scooty from Majharia-Gajna Road. The troops immediately apprehended him and during search of the vehicle, 03 packets wrapped in black duct tape were recovered. On opening all the three packets, 12 gold biscuits and 02 gold bricks were found. BSF troops brought the three arrested persons and the seized gold to Border Outpost Puttikhali for further action.

During interrogation, the person who was bringing the gold on a scooty revealed that he used to hand over the consignment of gold to the gold carriers for further delivery and he used to get a good amount of money for this work. The two gold carriers who were taking the consignment for further delivery revealed that after taking the consignment of gold, they used to hand it over to some unknown person at Ranaghat Railway Station and Raghunandpur village. In return for this work, they used to get Rs 500/- every time. But this time BSF caught them while taking the consignment of gold.

The three arrested persons and the seized gold have been handed over to the Customs Department Majdia for further legal investigation.

The Public Relations Officer of BSF South Bengal Frontier appreciated this successful operation of BSF personnel and affirmed BSF’s commitment to combat smuggling activities. He assured that the informers would be rewarded and their identity would be kept confidential.
