In a historic initiative dedicated to women empowerment and Clean Ganga Mission, Shri Ravi Gandhi, Additional Director General, BSF Eastern Command Kolkata flagged off the All-Women Ganga River Rafting Team of 20 courageous women personnel of Border Security Force (BSF) at Ganga Ghat, Farakka on 11 December, 2024 for the remaining journey to Ganga Sagar.
The expedition jointly sponsored by BSF and the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) conducted awareness programmes during the halt at Farakka, West Bengal during their 53-day extraordinary journey from Gangotri to Gangasagar.
The awareness event on women empowerment, environmental protection, women health and promotion of adventure sports for women was inaugurated by Chief Guest Ravi Gandhi, Additional Director General BSF Eastern Command Kolkata and Shri Maninder P.S. Pawar, IPS, IG BSF South Bengal Frontier in presence of more than 700 people including district officials of local administration and prominent dignitaries, school students, NCC cadets.
During the event, an attractive folk dance and folk songs were performed by Shoor Tal Chando group on the songs Aguner Paroshmoni and Bipul Tarange Re and a lecture on “Do not use plastic and save water” enhanced the educational impact of the awareness program.
Addressing the expedition team, Shri Gandhi praised the BSF women personnel for their courage and commitment towards spreading awareness about women empowerment and Clean Ganga Mission and said: “The All-Women Ganga River Rafting Expedition is a testimony to the unparalleled courage and dedication of BSF women personnel. This initiative not only inspires women across the country but also strengthens our commitment towards Clean Ganga Mission and environmental protection.”
The event concluded with Ravi Gandhi, ADG officially flagging off the team and wishing them all the best for the remainder of their inspiring journey.
