With the objective of women empowerment and clean and pure Ganga, the All-Women Ganga River Rafting Expedition sponsored by Border Security Force (BSF) and National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), a 53-day adventure journey of 2500 km from Gangotri to Gangasagar by a team of 20 brave women border guards of BSF, was welcomed by Daljit Singh Chawdhary, IPS, Director General of BSF and the journey formally and officially concluded on 24 December 2024 at Diamond Harbor, West Bengal.
This unprecedented 53-day adventure journey started from Gangotri on 2 November 2024, which spread the message of women empowerment and clean Nirmal Ganga during the journey of 2500 kms in every city and village enroute and reached the last stop of the journey, Gangasagar, on 22 December 2024. At Gangasagar all the women river rafters offered prayers at the famous Kapil Muni temple located there. After this, the team returned from Kakdwip via the river to Diamond Harbor, where the Director General of BSF and Additional Director General of Eastern Command of BSF warmly welcomed the team.
During the welcome program, a short film of this adventurous journey was also screened. During this, BSF Director General along with senior BSF officers, jawans and 20 women guards took the oath of clean Ganga. Senior Communication Manager of NMCG Mohammad Najeeb Ahsan was also present on this occasion. At the end of the program, the Director General honored all the women guards and BSF officers involved in it with the Director General’s Commendation Certificate and Roll.
Message of women empowerment and clean Ganga
The All-Women Ganga River Rafting Expedition was undertaken by 20 brave women border guards of BSF with the message of women empowerment, clean Ganga, women health and encouragement of women participation in adventure sports. During the 2500 km journey, awareness programs were conducted and awareness rallies were organized in all the cities and villages. Thousands of school students, locals and women participated in it. These awareness programmes focused on promoting the mission of river conservation and social empowerment and the focus of communities on cleaning the river banks, ghats and surrounding areas.
During this journey, quiz competitions and interactive sessions were organized especially for the youth to raise awareness about water conservation, pollution control and ecological importance of the river.
During this, Daljit Singh Chawdhary, IPS, Director General, BSF met 20 brave women border guards of BSF, team officers and other jawans of All-Women Ganga River Rafting Expedition and praised this journey started with the message of women empowerment and clean and pure Ganga and Chawdhary congratulated the team of 20 brave women border guards.
At the end of the program, BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary, IPS in his statement said: “All-Women Ganga River Rafting Expedition is a testimony to the unmatched courage and commitment of women border guards of BSF. This initiative not only encourages women but also strengthens our national objective of clean Ganga and environmental protection.
