Acting on specific intelligence of presence of cadre in general Kaprang area, Churachandpur District, Manipur, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police launched a cordon and search operation. Upon spotting the security forces, the cadre attempted to flee under the cover of darkness. In a display of tactical discipline and concern for civilian safety, the troops refrained from opening fire and instead pursued the fugitive on foot, surrounded him and forced him to surrender.
An AK 47 rifle and ammunition was recovered from him. A thorough search of the house he was hiding resulted in recovery of .315 rifle and a country-made single-barrel rifle.
On initial questioning the cadre identified himself as Finance Secretary of the United national Kuki Army (UKNA), which is a non-Suspension of Operations (SoO) entity.
The apprehended individual and the recovered weapons have been handed over to Manipur Police.
