High-Level Task Force Formed to Boost Investment in Northeast India

In a significant step towards accelerating investment in the Northeast, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region has constituted a high-level task force comprising chief ministers from the region. The task force, formed following the 72nd Plenary of the North Eastern Council held in Agartala on December 21, 2024, will focus on promoting investment and economic growth in the region.

The  Chief Minister of Tripura has been appointed as the convenor of the task force, with members including the Hon’ble Minister of Development of North Eastern Region and the chief ministers of Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Sikkim. The initiative aims to assess the current investment landscape and formulate a strategic roadmap to position the Northeast as a preferred investment hub.

The task force will work towards identifying high-potential sectors such as agriculture, tourism, logistics, IT, and renewable energy while also developing strategies to attract both domestic and international investments. Key areas of focus include streamlining policy reforms, enhancing ease of doing business, and fostering public-private partnerships to drive sectoral growth.

With a commitment to sustainable economic progress, the task force will submit its recommendations to the North Eastern Council within six months, paving the way for comprehensive policy interventions that will bolster industrialization, employment, and infrastructural development across the region.
