Almost ten unidentified drones were hovering over Kolkata and close to Eastern Command HQ Monday late at night.
As those locations falls under the Eastern Command’s no-fly zone, no prior permission has been given.
Police personnel first spotted the drones and alerted Lalbazar Police control room and all adjoining police stations placed on high alert.
Central intelligance agencies have also joined the investigation, given the proximity of these sightings to Vijay Durg, the Eastern Command headquarters of the Indian Army.
According to police sources, the drones were first spotted late at night coming in from the Maheshtala and Behala areas of South Kolkata. They were seen hovering over Hastings, a sensitive location near the Second Hooghly Bridge and Vijay Durg. From there, the drones reportedly moved towards the Maidan area near the Victoria Memorial, lingered over Jawaharlal Nehru Road, and then headed eastward towards Park Circus.Two other drones were seen flying northward over the city.
