ASSAM RIFLES PROMOTES SPORTS AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT IN BORDER VILLAGES OF TENGNOUPAL DISTRICT

Assam Rifles organised a sports outreach programme on  December 31, 2025 under its Civic Action initiative, bringing together over 2000 villagers from remote areas along the India–Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district. The programme was conducted across Moreingthel, Yangoupokpi, Songtong, Choktong, Waksu, Kwatha, Tengnoupal, Senam, N Satang, T Minou, Haolenphai, H Mongjang and T Zommunom villages.

Sports equipment including footballs, basketballs, badminton sets, boxing kits, goalposts with nets, substitution boards and referee gear were distributed to the youth and community representatives. The initiative has enabled the villages to organise tournaments and games independently, encouraging participation in physical activities and strengthening community bonds.

Community leaders and civil society organisations expressed appreciation, noting that Assam Rifles continues to play a vital role in guiding the youth towards constructive engagement and development while safeguarding the border during the ongoing crisis in Manipur and neighbouring areas. They highlighted that such programmes foster unity, discipline and teamwork among the younger generation.

Representatives of Assam Rifles reiterated that Civic Action and Winning Hearts and Minds projects reflect the force’s commitment to peace, prosperity and holistic development in remote regions. They emphasised that sports serve as a constructive outlet for energy, instilling confidence and camaraderie among the youth.

The event concluded with active participation from villagers, elders and youth, reinforcing the partnership between the local population and Assam Rifles. Over 120 Officials and troops were involved in conducting the programme across the district. The distribution of sports items was marked as a New Year’s gift symbolising goodwill, unity and shared aspirations for a healthier and progressive future.
