Assam today celebrates the 131st birth anniversary of the first CM of Assam Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi.
Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma tweet,” My humble tribute to Assam’s 1st Chief Minister Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi on his 131st birth anniversary. His contributions towards preserving the culture, identity and spirit of Assam, and ensuring her unity, are legendary, and shall be cherished forever.”
Bardoloi took the oath as the first CM of Assam in 1938.
In 1999 he was conferred upon with the Bharat Ratna posthumously.
