BSF HANDED OVER THE OPERATIONAL CASUALTY CERTIFICATE TO THE RELATIVES OF CONSTABLE TARUN KUMAR BHATTACHARJEE, WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE FOR THE MOTHERLAND 31 YEARS AGO

Every day the incidents of encounter between the security forces and the terrorists keep coming to the fore and every time in front of the indomitable spirits of the soldiers, the terrorists miss sixes and have to lose their lives. But sometimes in these encounters, the brave sons of Mother India also attain martyer. In the same sequence, Tarun Kumar Bhattacharjee, a resident of Daskalgram village in Birbhum district of West Bengal and posted as constable in the 32 Battalion of BSF and was working in Punjab with the company for doing internal security duty in Punjab in the year 1991, about 31 years ago. On March 26, 1991, at 1630 pm, a joint cordon and search operation was being carried out in Chandidas village by the BSF and the police, when suddenly a fire started from Kartar Singh’s house. The jawans retaliated and the hiding terrorists were put to death. But during this sudden firing, constable Tarun Kumar Bhattacharjee, the brave son of Mother India, had attained martyer.

At the same time, on July 23, 2022 saluting his incomparable contribution to the country, 31 years after his martyrdom, Shri Santosh Kumar, Commanding Officer 86 battalion BSF, gave the ‘Operational Casualty Certificate’ from the Government of India to the relatives of the martyr. BSF officials handed over the certificate to his wife Alo Bhattacharjee. The dignitaries of the village were also present on this occasion. On the occasion of the handing over of the certificate, the whole atmosphere became inconsolable and tears welled up in the eyes of all the people present there. On this occasion, BSF officers also paid tribute to the sacrificer by paying floral tributes to him.

Tarun was recruited in BSF in 1984.The statement said that the constable had joined the Border Security Force on February 13, 1984. He was posted in the 32nd BN of BSF and his duty at that time was for internal security, in the Punjab area.

Here, in a statement issued by the BSF’s South Bengal Frontier Headquarters, Kolkata, it was stated that the Border Security Force keeps paramount those who make sacrifices for the country. On 26 March, 1991 constable Tarun Kumar Bhattacharjee had displayed indomitable courage and valor in an encounter with terrorists and sacrificed for his motherland while fighting terrorists. His sacrifice is incomparable. Their relatives have been handed over ‘Operational Casualty Certificate’ by BSF.
