A dreams comes true for Kolkatans ! on 30th December, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated several Railway projects for the people of West Bengal through Video Conferencing.
The much awaited Joka-Taratala Metro stretch of Joka-Esplanade Metro Project (Purple Line) of Metro Railway was inaugurated and the inaugural service was flagged off by him. This 6.5 kms stretch from Joka to Taratala has been constructed at a cost of ₹ 2477.25 crores., fully funded by the Govt. of India out of which about ₹ 635 Cr. has been done for the Depot at Joka and about ₹ 1600 Cr for viaduct and stations for completion of Joka-Taratala section.
This corridor will provide safe, secure & fast mode of travel for the people living in Southern part of the City. This Metro corridor will decongest the busy Diamond Harbour Road, reducing travel time between Joka and Taratala. Using this Metro route IIM Joka, Thakurpukur Cancer Hospital, Vivekananda College, Thakurpukur, ESIC Medical College & Hospital, Joka will be accessible very easily and people can commute to Sarsuna, Dakghar and Muchipara in just 15 minutes.
World-class passenger amenities like 7 Escalators, 4 Lifts, 8 Staircases, PA System, Signages, Benches, AFC gates and Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) have been provided at each Metro Station on Joka-Taratala Metro Stretch (Purple Line).
Fire Detection and Suppression System at stations and the Fire Hydrants are provided at each station and viaduct.
Ashwini Vaishnaw Railways Minister took a Metro ride from Joka to Taratala after the inauguration in Motorman’s Cab. He interacted with school children, Metro staff who where present to witness this historic journey. Shri Vaishnaw also unveiled the new look Smart Card of Metro Railway containing the logo of G20 and published a coffee table book titled “Joka- Taratala Section of Joka-Esplanade Metro Project”.
This newly inaugurated Metro route is going to commence from 02.01.2023 (Monday). From that day, 12 daily services (6 UP + 6 DN) will be run in between Joka and Taratala of Joka-Taratala Metro Project (Purple Line) from Monday to Friday following “One Train Only System”.
