On 28 April 2023, alert BSF jawans of ICP Petrapole, 145 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier apprehended 01 Bangladeshi passenger with cosmetics consignment, which he was trying to illegally carrying from India to Bangladesh. The estimated value of seized goods is Rs.4,02,900/-.
Acting on credible information received, on 28 April at about 1300 hrs, BSF troops on duty at Passenger Terminal ICP Petrapole observed 01 suspicious Bangladeshi passenger traveling from India to Bangladesh with heavy luggage. The jawans on duty stopped the passenger and questioned him, neither he could give any satisfactory reply nor he show the legal papers. Thereafter, BSF troops arrested the passenger. The apprehended passenger has been identified as Aziz (63), District Dhaka, Bangladesh.
During preliminary interrogation, the passenger disclosed that he runs a grocery shop in Dhaka and frequently visits India on business visa. He further revealed that he buys cosmetic items from Kolkata’s Bada Bazar and goes to Bangladesh to sell these items and earns a hefty amount.
The apprehended passenger has been handed over to Petrapole Custom Office along with the seized baggage.
Public Relations Officer, BSF, South Bengal Frontier stated that BSF troops are guarding the borders 24×7 hours and are committed to stop all kinds of smuggling activities along the border, due to which people involved in crimes like smuggling are being caught continuously.
