Under the South Bengal Frontier, BSF jawans foiled a smuggling attempt and apprehended a smuggler with 4 kg of silver jewelry worth Rs. 2,39,488/- on the International Border. The smuggler was attempting to smuggle the ornaments from India to Bangladesh.
Acting on specific intelligence, on May 14, 2023, the troops of Border Out Post Hakimpur from the 112 Battalion intercepted a motorcyclist heading towards the border via Hakimpur check post. During the search, the jawans discovered two packets hidden under the fuel tank of the motorcycle, and one packet concealed in the smuggler’s pants. The troops brought the smuggler to the border outpost for interrogation, who has been identified as Sharif Ghazi, from District North 24 Parganas.
During the interrogation, the smuggler admitted to having been involved in this type of smuggling for a long time. He also disclosed that he received the silver ornaments in Swaroopdha village from Mohid, a resident of Tarali Mollapara village. After crossing the Hakimpur check post, the smuggler was supposed to hand over the ornaments to Mohid and receive Rs. 600 in compensation.
The apprehended smuggler and the seized silver ornaments were handed over to the Customs Office in Tentulia for further legal proceedings.
A spokesperson for the BSF, South Bengal Frontier expressed his satisfaction with the success of the troops and stated that all potential smuggling routes are being closely monitored to prevent smugglers from carrying out their illegal activities. The spokesperson also acknowledged the BSF’s excellent team for providing information on smuggling and monitoring criminal activities in the border area.
