The Department of Physics, Assam University, in collaboration with the Dr. Ambedkar Chair, organized an awareness meeting on the biography and contributions of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The event witnessed the presence of faculty members, students, and researchers from the Department of Physics.
Dr. Swarnadeep Biswas, Assistant Professor, from the Department of Physics served as the program coordinator. The event began with the garlanding of Dr. Ambedkar’s portrait, followed by a welcome address delivered by Dr. Maumita Nath, Assistant Professor of the Dr. Ambedkar Chair. She explained the purpose of the awareness meeting in simple and accessible language.
Dr. Swarnadeep Biswas then shed light on various aspects of Dr. Ambedkar’s life. Prof. Himadri Sekhar Das, Head of the Department of Physics, expressed his gratitude to the Dr. Ambedkar Chair for organizing the program in collaboration with the department. He emphasized the importance of such events in enlightening the younger generation about Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy.
Senior faculty member Prof. Atri Deshamukhya delivered a thoughtful speech, followed by an address from Dr. Debotosh Chakraborty, In-charge Chair Professor of the Dr. Ambedkar Chair, who discussed different dimensions of Dr. Ambedkar’s life and contributions.
The event concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners of the quiz and essay competitions. Suraiya Begum secured first place in the quiz competition, while Seema Dutta and Baishali Roy shared second place, and Siddhanth Kumar Panda and Giriraj Yadav shared third place. In the essay competition, Saptadeep Nath, Jeetul Gogoi, and Anurag Das Kanungo won first, second, and third places, respectively.
It is worth mentioning that the quiz and essay competitions were organized earlier this week by the Dr. Ambedkar Chair in collaboration with the Department of Physics. The activities were coordinated by Dr. Swarnadeep Biswas.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Bishal Das, a researcher associated with the Dr. Ambedkar Chair. The event was hosted by Sanchali Nath Mazumdar, a researcher from the Department of Physics.
