20th EDITION OF CAPTAIN JINTU GOGOI, VIR CHAKRA MEMORIAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT KICKS OFF WITH GRAND CEREMONY

In a spectacular display of patriotism, sportsmanship and community spirit, the 20th Captain Jintu Gogoi, Vir Chakra Memorial Football Tournament officially commenced with a grand opening ceremony. The event, held in honour of the Assam’s braveheart Captain Jintu Gogoi, Vir Chakra, aims to promote football talent, foster community engagement and inspire youth development in the region.

The tournament is named after Captain Jintu Gogoi, Vir Chakra, a gallant Indian Army officer from Golaghat, Assam, who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Kargil War in 1999 in Batalik Sector. His bravery and selflessness have inspired countless individuals and this tournament serves as a fitting tribute to his memory.

The Captain Jintu Gogoi Football Tournament has been a cornerstone of the region’s sports calendar for two decades, providing a platform for local budding players to showcase their skills and compete against top teams. The tournament has helped identify and nurture talented youngsters, many of whom have gone on to represent their states.

The Opening Ceremony of the 20th Edition of the Captain Jintu Gogoi Football Tournament was a grand affair, attended by dignitaries, sports enthusiasts, and local residents. The event featured a spectacular Military Band Display and a league match between two top teams.

The tournament will feature 12 teams competing in a round-robin format. The tournament is being held at different venues of Upper Assam culminating in a grand finale on 11 January 2025 at Nehru Maidan, Duliajan.
