Foundation Stone Laid for Tripura’s First ALIMCO Auxiliary Production Centre

In a landmark move to enhance support for persons with disabilities (PwDs) and senior citizens, Tripura has inaugurated the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India’s (ALIMCO) first Auxiliary Production Centre (AAPC) in the North-East region. Located in Purba Laxmibill, Sepahijala District, this facility represents a significant advancement in assistive device manufacturing and service delivery.

The Bhumi Pujan and foundation stone laying ceremony took place today, graced by distinguished dignitaries including Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment B.L. Verma. Other notable attendees were Tripura’s Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy, Member of Parliament Biplab Dev, and Bishalgarh MLA Sushanta Deb.

With an investment of ₹45 crore, the AAPC aims to address the longstanding need for a dedicated production and distribution facility catering to the North-East. This initiative is expected to enhance accessibility to assistive devices and generate employment opportunities for the local population.

The establishment of this centre underscores the collaborative efforts between the Central and State Governments in promoting inclusivity and regional development. The Tripura Government played a pivotal role in facilitating land acquisition in Sepahijala District, with guidance from the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Government of India.

ALIMCO, a Mini-Ratna Category II Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, has been instrumental in manufacturing and distributing aids and appliances for PwDs since 1976. The inauguration of this auxiliary production centre marks a significant expansion of its services in the North-East, aligning with the government’s broader vision of inclusive growth and empowerment.

This development is poised to strengthen rehabilitation services and ensure that assistive devices are more accessible to those in need across the North-East region.
