Pre-Bohag Bihu Celebrated at Modern Public Academy School in Kamrup

Bihu is one of the most prominent festivals of Assam. It holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Assam. Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika once described the Bihu festival as the lifeline of Assamese society. Bihu is also celebrated as an occasion of community bonding and cultural expression. Bohag Bihu marks the beginning of the Assamese New Year and the agricultural season.

Ahead of Rongali Bihu, various schools celebrated pre-Rongali festivities with great enthusiasm on the previous Saturday. As part of this, Modern Public Academy in the rural Kamrup area celebrated the pre-Rongali Bihu festival with a vibrant cultural program on Saturday. Girl students performed the traditional Bihu dance. The school campus was filled with excitement, as students and teachers dressed in colorful traditional attire. They brought along traditional musical instruments like the dhol and pepa.

The program was inaugurated by the school’s Principal, Sulipi Halder. Vice Principal Parbin Saikia and all the teachers were also present on the occasion. The Principal extended warm wishes for Bihu and stated that the aim of organizing this event was to highlight the importance of Assamese festivals, culture, and heritage, and to connect students with traditional customs.

As part of the Rongali Bihu celebrations, a Bihu dance competition was held among the girl students, while others presented Bihu songs and dances. Teachers also educated the students about the significance of Bihu. The event was hosted by Kuldeep Majumdar.
